On this episode, Iā€™m talking to Missing Mei, a creative and founder of The Creative Sober.

Missing Mei has been in the DJ industry since 2003. Her draw to dance music was discovered through many genre types stemming from her roots in Hawaii at warehouse raves to experiencing world-class productions performed by the best. Recently, creativity has changed. Inwardly working on a more healthy lifestyle, including sobriety. Because of this shift in her life, the Creative Sober was born.

Mei is naturally drawn to the expression of the arts ā€“ whether its music, designing, written word, anything that requires a person to tap into the soulā€™s language of feeling and thoughts purely manifested into a visible expression of human truth.

Her entire career in the music industry consisted of nightlife, drugs, and alcohol. It took a toll on mental health and wellness, sent her off into several downward spirals of self destruction, broken relationships, and she came close to falling out of love with music.

The Creative Sober is a channel and community that was founded to shine a light on the idea that you can be sober and still create.

On this episode, youā€™ll learn:

  • How Meiā€™s well-being and health suffered from drugs, alcohol, the nightlife lifestyle and what made her give up music altogether as a result,

  • What made Mei decide to choose a life of sobriety after being immersed in dance music, how she relapsed and felt called to a life of sobriety again a few years later - loud and clear,

  • How being sober opens up a beautiful journey of highs and lows and being fully open to explore the darker sides of who you are,

  • How to go into a DJ gig without using alcohol or other drugs and a few strategies you can use to prepare yourself for that moment,

  • What you can do to go into the holidays without drinking and respecting your personal boundaries at the same time.

If you struggle with creativity and you and youā€™re looking for ways to turn it up without turning to mind-altering substances so that you can get into a creative flow and finish your ideas from a place of personal wellness, then this episode is definitely for you!
