I work with driven producers and DJs who want to get confident about their next steps and feel ready and able to move the needle in dance music so that they can get visible, be relevant, have an impact and live life to the fullest with more time and more freedom to create exactly what they want without feeling like someoneâs going to pull the rug from under them.
Many producers and DJs feel the pressure of having to be present everywhere on social media in order to get noticed. Mostly, they feel that way because more often than not, they hear that âthatâs how it is done in this industry.â
Nothing could be more empty and meaningless than that statement. And all this does is this:
It causes needless pressure because youâve got a gazillion channels to manage, update regularly and build a following on.
It often leads to procrastination because you want everything to be perfect before you even put it online and you constantly doubt whether or not youâre ready.
Perfectionism makes you compare yourself with other artists in dance music because their feeds and plays seem to be blowing up and yours are not. Are you good enough?
Pressure, procrastination and perfectionism are all signs of overwhelm and that feeling sucks. But what you actually want is to get noticed, be productive, achieve, move the needle in dance music.
In order to do that, youâll want to identify whatâs (mentally) blocking you, hone in on your motivations and prioritise what truly matters to you (and not what you think matters, or what other people say you should be doing).
Social media can be so overwhelming that it is detrimental to your emotional and mental wellbeing.
So how can you promote yourself, get your music or brand out there without using social media? Is that even possible these days - in the year 2020?
It sure is and Nat has a super interesting take on that!
Nat is a Speaker, Voiceover Artist and the Founder & Creative Director of I AM SOUND, a subscription based membership for creatives that teaches people how to use sound, energy and vibration to enhance both their work and personal lives on a daily basis.
On this episode, youâll learn:
what made Nat decide to say goodbye to social media and how that helped her to Unf*ck her life,
practical tips on how to promote yourself and your music without turning to social media and through personal, genuine connections,
what you can do to Unf*ck Your Life and how Nat can support you.
This conversation was originally recorded for the Electronic Music Wellness Summit in June 2020 and I'm now bringing it to Mind The Music because it's important to think about the detrimental effects social media can have on our wellbeing.
I want you to know that you get to choose how to put yourself out there in a way that feels good for you and that can make you feel confident about your next steps in getting noticed and moving the needle.
If that means not turning to social media because you think you "have to" or "that's how it's done" - and I hate that sentence, then thatâs how you do it.
If this resonates with you and you want to get inspired on how to promote your music without social media so that you can stop feeling overwhelmed and confused about how to get visible in a way that feels good to you, then this episode is definitely for you!
