A recent trip to London, where I spoke at a music conference, inspired this episode about dance music still being in a state of emergency and the toxicity of the coaching space.

I spoke at a music industry conference sharing my 5 tips for working in music post-pandemic. But, dance music, nightlife and the nighttime economy are not out of the woods yet.

Even though things have opened up again, we’re all good now, right? Back to “normal”, yes?

Not really.

The night is facing different issues in the aftermath of +2 years of lockdowns and severe restrictions. Issues that might only even out in another year or 2.

Being back in an in-person environment, listening to, getting inspired by and learning from professional peers after 3 years, made me think about the coaching space. And how toxic it has felt for me coping with the state of emergency dance music has been and still is in right now. Which prompted me to ponder the toxicity of the coaching space in general.

That is what prompted this episode recorded from my hotel room in Soho, just as I was about to head out into the streets of my beloved London - where I lived for 6 months and where I thrive and discern at the same time, each time I’m back.

If you’re also wondering, like me and many others in dance music culture, what a post-pandemic dance music scene could look like, then you’ll find an honest perspective on the state of dance music right now.

And, if you are looking to, or have been supported by a coach to help you stay mentally and emotionally resilient throughout this period to find a balance. and might have experienced toxicity in coaching culture, then this episode can shed some light on what to do if you have a toxic coach.

The topic of work-life balance in the music industry and nightlife is complex and often overlooked, misunderstood and most of all, underrated.

  • Is a music career stressful?

  • How do you balance your day job and music career?

  • How do you balance music and life?

All valid questions which deserve an ongoing conversation as well as solid support for those active in nightlife - like DJs and electronic music producers, the nighttime economy in general and the music industry at large.

”Music-Life Balance: The First Step” is a first in a series of workshops and trainings. For those of you - creative wisdom seekers, nightlife workers, conscious creators and self leaders - who are done with the hustle, the grind and turned on by living smarter, not harder.

Who just want more time and freedom in their days to do whatever the fuck they want.
